The City of Cape Coral has announced the unveiling of a new Hurricane Ian Monument in Cape Coral.
As all of us here know, Hurricane Ian came roaring onto Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast nearly a year ago, on September 28, 2022. Next Thursday, September 28, 2023 marks the one year anniversary of the storm and the damage caused all across Southwest Florida.
How crazy it is to think a year has already passed. This is surely a day that will bring back dreaded memories for many Southwest Floridians. So many of us, along with our friends, families and neighbors lost so much and are continuing to rebuild a year after the storm.
The City of Cape Coral has plans to reveal the Hurricane Ian monument, commemorating the lives lost, the damaged caused and the 1,289 city employees who worked round the clock to keep the city and it's residents safe following the storm.
The unveiling of the Hurricane Ian monument will be held at Reflections Park, located at 815 Nicholas Parkway, at 8:30am. The event is open to the public and all attendees are invited to join in for a reception at Pops Cafe inside City Hall immediately following the ceremony. No reservation is required to attend.
