‘Captain America 4’ Is In The Works: Will It Star Anthony Mackie?

Anthony Mackie in "The Falcon And The Winter Solider"

The Falcon joined the Avengers at the end of 2015’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Malcolm Spellman, head writer and creator of Disney+ and Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is developing a fourth installment of the Captain America film franchise for Marvel Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spellman will co-write the script with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on Falcon and the Winter Soldier. No castings for the project are officially known, but Friday’s season finale episode is said to offer "plenty of roads for the feature to take."

Chris Evans played Captain America, AKA Steve Rogers, in three solo movies: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). He retired his role in Avengers: Endgame. The question of who was worthy enough to carry the shield or be Captain America was central to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Per the media outlet, the film is likely to continue Sam Wilson's story, played by Anthony Mackie, and the current wielder of the shield.

Marvel posted on their Instagram a photo of Sam Wilson debuting his new Captain America suit, which was revealed in the sixth and final last episode. They had a caption that simply read: "I'm Captain America."

Spellman assembled a nearly all-Black writers room for Falcon and the Winter Soldier and was praised for bringing the Black experience to the forefront unlike any other superhero film or show before it; some were surprised that a Disney show addressed race in such a bold way. Disney+ said the series' March 19 debut was its biggest ever, topping the audience for WandaVision and The Mandalorian's debut audiences.
