Times have been tough on Big Lots as earlier this year they announced that the retailer would be closing 40 stores by the end of the year. Now, it looks like that number will be much higher, including 6 Southwest Florida locations mentioned.

26 Florida Big Lots To Close - 6 In Southwest Florida

The Big Lots website lists many stores as "Closing This Location" with an ad saying 'Save Up To 20% off' on that location's page. But why are they closing? Big Lots sales have dropped over 10% year over year, bringing a big loss to the company and doubts as to whether they can avoid bankruptcy. At last check the stock was trading at less than a dollar.

There are currently 106 Big Lots in Florida, with many here in Southwest Florida. Let's take a look at those SWFL stores.

  • Bonita Springs - listed as "closing"

Inflation

Although inflation is cooling, the damage to the consumer seems to already have been done. The remaining Big Lots stores could all receive notice at any time. Although, Big Lots isn't the only retailer in trouble. Other stores to watch for include Petco, JOANN, Express, AMC, Kohl's, Foot Locker, Stein Mart, and JC Penney.

Southwest Florida Bowling Enthusiasts Get New Lanes

I often hear local bowlers complain about the lack of space to throw their balls. Good news. Southwest Florida bowling enthusiasts get new lanes and billiards too. Here's is the scoop. I got a preview of the new bowling lanes in Estero. There is a lot of excitement about the official opening of 810 Billiards & Bowling tomorrow.

It is at Miromar Outlet in the location that formerly held Furniture Factory and prior to that, Neiman Marcus last call. Owners have been building out the space for the last eight months and this marks the eigth location in the 810 franchise.

About The New Southwest Florida Bowling Lanes

Owners say as they have grown, they have refined the design and it is evident in this location. There are 16 bowlling lanes but they are split up. Eight on the east side and eight on the west. The bowling balls mirror the balls on the pool tables, colored and numbered.

Speaking of the pool tables, there are five of them, boasting the best felt in the business. In addition, there are four ax throwing bays and two sports simulators. You can play golf, football, soccer and more.

One of the most exciting additions to this location of 810 Billiards & Bowling is Crazy Darts. This game is more about fun than just skill. You can program the dart board for a traditional bullseye target. Or you you can choose games where targets move.

One of the many arcade games. Balls drop from the tube and you try to gather as many as you can. It's at the new Bowling Lanes in Estero Gina Birch

Finally, there are the arcade games. 64 in all. They range from old school to high tech. All of these area are seperate but still connected. The open design is to encourage interaction.

There is a large bar in the center serving beer, wine and signature cocktails. It's the only place you'll find televisions. The idea is for you to unplug, have fun and not sit glued to a TV. The kitchen cranks out bar classics.

At the entrance is a decadent ice cream counter, the Mean Mugs Milkshake Bar. Check out this video of some sweet treats I tried at the media preview. WOW. Click here for more info.

The space is perfect for hosting parties, happy hours and has something for every age. 810 Billiards & Bowling officially opens Thursday, July 25th.
