Traffic in Southwest Florida has become absolutely unbearable. Sure, it's season and the Snowbirds are here but as a 20 year resident I can say, I've never seen it this bad. And Baseball Spring Training hasn't even started yet. Oh yeah, spring break is also just around the corner. There's a whole new batch of people that are still planning on coming. That's why one Reddit user proposed a new system of transit. A Southwest Florida Subway system that connects Fort Myers and Cape Coral.
Sure, we have public transportation in Southwest Florida. The busses. But they're another vehicle on the roads. Roads that are already jammed with vehicles. And because of the way our area is situated near the coast, building more roads isn't always an option. It was just a few years ago that 41 in Estero was 2 lanes on each side. Now, there's 3 lanes per side and they are all packed. Reddit user looringdreef has proposed a solution.
A Southwest Florida Subway through Fort Myers and Cape Coral.
Using Subway restaurants to plot the station map.
"Subway Map of Fort Myers and Cape Coral if every Subway Restaurant was a subway station"
This is wonderful, and it's why I love Reddit so much. Yes, I know there's no way you could do this because of the water table. But it's fun. Someone spent a fair amount of time making this map so that we could all have a good laugh. It's also a good way to show just how many Subway Restaurants we have in Fort Myers and Cape Coral. I'm ready for the Estero extension that'll connect us to Miromar Outlets.
Yes, we're all caught up in traffic, but just try to be patient. All the extra people that come down here power our economy. It's not like you've been missing out going to the beach, it's been too cold lately anyways. Have a great day everyone.
