The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year and it is only one week away. In person shopping returns for Black Friday this year according to at least one poll. Finding goods online is still the preference of a majority of Americans. Playing a big roll in that shift was Covid restrictions. Stuck at home, many of us got more comfortable scouring the internet for things we need. However, it seems bargain hunters are starting to miss the excitement of Black Friday. There is something about the chaos, getting up early in the morning, and shopping in person. It's like a sport for some people.
In person shopping poll
A new poll commissioned by User Testing finds that 43% percent of Americans miss the old school experience. Going to stores this season is in vogue again. Those responding to the survey say they are motivated by the instant gratification of shopping in person.
In addition, Black Friday shopping is a long held holiday tradition. There is nothing like being able to see, touch and try on an item in person before swiping that credit card.
“The pandemic has certainly made many people nostalgic for the in-person Black Friday experience, but it’s also heightened their expectations,” said Janelle Estes, Chief Insights Officer at UserTesting. “Our research shows half of consumers who plan to shop in stores for this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday events would like smart shopping carts to navigate through the aisles and easily find products.”
There is more good news for retailers. This poll finds 31% of those responding expect to spend more money on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday than in previous years.
