Spirit Airlines has cancelled at least 35 of its routes, including 7 from Fort Myers and 7 from Tampa beginning in January. They've also trimmed 6 flights from Fort Lauderdale, three from Orlando, and 2 Miami routes. These changes in scheduling begin in January of next year. The changes will reduce Spirit's overall capacity by about 5%.

Airline Weekly reports "Complicating matters for Spirit are the continued staffing issues at the air traffic control center in Jacksonville, which manages almost all flights to and from Florida. Matt Klein, Spirit's commercial chief, said on the same call that Spirit has cut flights between Florida and the rest of the U.S. have been cut by about 10 points, to 40 percent of its schedule, due to the air traffic control constraints. "

The Fort Myers routes most affected are the ones to Hartford Connecticut and their non stop to Columbus, Ohio. Since so many people in the Fort Myers area are from Ohio, this is one that will probably be noticed the most. Demand for the non stop to Columbus on carriers such as Southwest will be more pronounced. This change from Spirit will amount to a 42 percent reduction in seats flying in and out of RSW in Fort Myers.

How does the Spirit Airlines Fort Myers cancellations affect me?

Before you chime in with "I never fly Spirit", keep in mind that the people who do (did) will now be needing other alternatives. Other carriers flight's are more likely to be full or even sold out.  The currently released schedules go through May. Any further changes, such as additions or even more cancellations, could come after then.

Another low cost carrier, Avelo, has recently added flights. This news came out earlier this week.

New Nonstop Flight From Fort Myers

Travelers to and from RSW have yet another option with a new nonstop flight from Fort Myers to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina (RDU). Three flights a week are scheduled to begin in February on Avelo airlines.

In addition, this new route marks the airline’s fifth base at RDU. The new base enables Avelo to significantly expand the  service that the affordable airline introduced to North Carolina’s so-called Research Triangle area last May.

Avelo Airline adds anther new non-stop flight from For Myers to North Carolina.

The new route will operate three times weekly on Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737 aircraft. Anytime there is something new, there is almost always an introductory deal. This is no exception. The new rate, and remember it's only a welcome aboard the new route kind of rate, is only $39. However, take note that is not round trip. It is a one way fare. Regardless, that is a pretty sweet deal if  you can make it work.

About Avelo and the new nonstop flight from Fort Myers

Avelo was founded with a vision to help its customers save money and time when traveling by air. Since taking flight on April 28, 2021, the airline has flown more than 1.3 million customers on over 10,000 flights.

In addition to offering fliers everyday low fares on every route, anyone who flies on Avelo is able to change or cancel their itineraries with no extra fees. Yep, you heard right. NO extra fees.

Avelo also offers several unbundled travel options that might cost a little bit more. However, they allow you to have things that might be important to you such as priority boarding and bringing a pet in the cabin.

Now that you know about the new nonstop flight from Fort Myers, here the other nonstops offered by Avelo Airline. The airline flies to other U.S. destinations, however, those flights involve connections.
