Hurricane Ian Field Hospital Opens In Fort Myers

The first Hurricane Ian field hospital opens in Fort Myers at the Edison Mall. The idea is to help take the pressure off of local hospitals. In the days following the deadly strike by Ian, Lee Health was forced to evacuate patients because of a drop in water pressure. The evacuations were from Health Park Medical Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Field hospitals like t his one became common place in cities around the world at the height of the Corona Virus Pandemic. Now set up in Fort Myers to aid in Hurricane Ian relief.

This  new filed hospital is set up in the former Sears store at The Edison Mall. Anyone who stops by can receive a range of treatments and services. Everything from diagnosis to things routinely treated in a typical emergency room

In addition, there is a Mobile Health Clinic at the Estero Recreation Center on Corkscrew Palms Blvd in Estero. Think of these mobile clinics like you might an urgent care facility.

Also assisting hospitals in treating sick and injured Lee County residents is the Disaster Assistance Medical Team. You will find these teams at both Lee Memorial and Cape Coral Hospitals. The idea is to get residents quicker emergency services. It's an overflow from the hospital's traditional emergency room.

All of these additions to the medial community enables residents to get help faster. However, if there is a life-threatening injury or situation, officials still advise you to dial 911.

There has been an increase in the number of people suffering injuries while cleaning up from Hurricane Ian.

The Hurricane Ian field hospital opens in Fort Myers and will stay open as long as needed.
