Major League Baseball To Temporarily Shut Down Spring-Training Facilities: Report

Major League Baseball Suspends Spring Training

In the past few days, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Houston Astros, the Toronto Blue Jays and the San Francisco Giants all announced that players and/or staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, and now Major League Baseball is expected to announce the immediate shut down of all spring training facilities in Arizona and Florida, according to USA Today.

USA Today also reports that Major League Baseball has ordered all of the facilities to undergo a deep clean, and will require all players and staff members to undergo testing before being able to use the facilities again when they open.

As coronavirus cases are spiking in many states, including Florida, Arizona and Texas, the MLB is still clashing with the players union over the length of the season; the players want a 70-game season, while the owners want a 60-game sesaon. A decision on that is expected on Monday.
