House passes $3 trillion coronavirus relief package

Update 9:35 p.m. EDT May 15: Democrats have passed a  $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill through the House on Friday, according to ABC.

This bill advocates $1 trillion for state and local governments. In addition, for another round of $1,200 direct payments to U.S. citizens.

“Not to act now is not only irresponsible in a humanitarian way, it is irresponsible because it’s only going to cost more,” warned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. “More in terms of lives, livelihood, cost to the budget, cost to our democracy.”

Although, this has no chance of becoming law as written, but will likely spark negotiations.

There was a new bill introduced in Congress today and it's a big one.

The Heroes Acts includes another round of “more substantial economic impact payments.” That second round of checks would be $1,200 per family member and up to $6,000 per household, according to CNBC.

This was proposed after the U.S is still in the process of sending the first round of stimulus checks.

Can I mention the first round many are still waiting on...

Here's a summary of what's in the bill:

  • Nearly 1 trillion dollars goes to state and local governments
  • A second round of direct stimulus checks. $1,200 per person - up to $6,000 per household!
  • Nearly 200 billion dollars in hazard pay for Frontline Workers
  • 75 billion for additional testing and Coronavirus tracking
  • Extending the $600 per week federal unemployment benefit through January
  • Rent and mortgage assistance
  • A special Affordable Care Act enrollment period for people who lost their jobs
  • A 15% increase in SNAP benefits
  • + a few other things, bringing the total to over 3 trillion dollars in stimulus

It'll be voted on in the House Of Representatives on Friday. If it passes the House, it's on to the Senate.
