Hard and Spiked Seltzers just a few years ago seemed like a novelty. College kids with White Claws was about the extent of it. Fast forward and some of the best seltzers helped the category clock in around $5 billion dollars in sales a year. Chances are, you may have been exposed to seltzers in your youth. Coors launched Zima back in 1994. No one knew what to do with it and frankly, the taste was weird. Many people would create their own flavors of the clear beverage by adding Jolly Ranchers or Skittles. I bet if you could get your hands on a Zima and put a Jolly Rancher in it, the flavor would not be much different than a current hard seltzer.
The current trend of hard and spiked seltzers is obvious if you go into Publix. About 1/3 of what was once the beer section is now dedicated to seltzers. There's just so many to try. You could go with the Corona ones or the Bud Light ones, both very good. Or try something different. But the last thing you want is to be set up somewhere ready to go only to find out...
Meh.
Let's prevent that. Instead of standing in the aisle staring at all the different choices let's present to you, the best. The seltzers to try this summer. Spy.com helped me not not forget about some of these. Something something, Drink Responsibly.
21. (via Krispy) Hard Mt. Dew
Originally this one missed the cut, but was brought on as as opt-in by Krispy who loves the stuff.
20. Four Loko
Certainly not the greatest, but let's be honest. You'll reach for these because of the much higher alcohol content.
19. Austin Eastciders
As the name implies, it's kind of a cider/seltzer mix.
18. Two Robbers
Made with cane sugar if you're trying to steer clear of the artificial sweeteners.
17. Happy Dad
There's added electrolytes in the seltzer to help stave off a hangover. It's like pouring a Pedialyte packet right into your drink. Neat!
16. Jose Cuervo Playamar Tequila
Sugar free and made with tequila.
15. Cutwater
They do seltzers and canned cocktails as well.
14. Sonic
Yep, as in the restaurant. They took their classic slush flavors and boozed them up.
13. BON & VIV
There's a range of flavors on these that are, well, creative. Try the variety pack to see if it suits you.
12. Barefoot
Just like the wine.
11. Natural Light
Want a secret? Add a shot of vodka and these things get pretty good.
10. Smirnoff
This falls into the category of "everyone like these"
9. Michelob Ultra Organic
It's really the seltzer version of Mic Ultra.
8. PRESS Premium
Definitely one to try. It's the independent craft brew of seltzers.
7. Bud Light
I like the black cherry of these. Also, the Bud Light lemonades are pretty good too.
6. Nectar
Asian fruit flavors? If you're looking for a different taste to try, this is it.
5. Topo Chico
They made seltzers with their famous mineral water.
4. Truly
Made by the people who make Sam Adams, Truly is one of the biggest brands out there.
3. Corona
Zero carbs and zero sugars. An absolute must try.
2. High Noon
Very smooth drink due to it's distillation process, and they come in 4 packs so it's an inexpensive try.
1. White Claw
You've had 'em, you already know. Plus, with all the different variety packs you'll never get burnt out on one flavor.
