These are the Southwest Florida School Closures at this time:
Collier County
Collier County announced school closings for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday by 4pm or earlier, we will make a determination about school and District operations for Thursday (September 29).
Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) continues to monitor Hurricane Ian very closely. Our area is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch with further escalation of watches and warnings anticipated later today and tomorrow. The current projections indicate the effects of the storm are expected late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. The storm effects are forecasted to bring heavy rain to our area, potential flooding and storm surge risks, as well as winds that would exceed safe levels for buses to be on the road (sustained winds of 35mph or more). According to the National Hurricane Center, there is substantial risk for rapid storm intensification that could affect the severity of storm effects.
Charlotte County
Charlotte County public schools have already cancelled school for Tuesday and a will update for the remainder of the week.
Bishop Verot & St. Francis Xavier Catholic Schools In Ft. Myers
Both schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lee County Schools - Undecided
The School District of Lee County continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Ian. The latest models from the National Hurricane Center show the storm is continuing to move in a northwest path. Southwest Florida is still within the cone of concern, and there is still much concern in coastal areas of Lee County due to possible risk of storm surge, hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall later this week.
FGCU - Undecided
FGCU continues to monitor Hurricane Ian. Normal operations are planned Monday, Sept. 26, for all employees and students
FSW
The FSW Emergency Management Team continues to actively monitor the movement and potential impacts of Hurricane Ian. Classes, services, and activities will continue as normal on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022. Please continue to monitor the latest weather updates. We will communicate any campus or operational impacts using FSW's official communication channels, FSW ALERT, and www.FSW.edu. A new update will be provided Monday, Sept. 26, 2022.
