People In These SWFL Cities Live Longer Than In Other Parts Of The US
The average human lifespan varies depending on many factors, including income level, race and even — where you live. Living near the coast can mean more than just a good view - it could even add years to your life!
A new MoneyGeek report reveals the best places to live in the US if you're in it for the long haul. The goal of the study was to see if a geographical location can affect the average age of death. To conduct the research, MoneyGeek looked at the average life expectancy in over 100 major metropolitan areas with populations of 250,000 or more using data from University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute’s county health rankings.
It appears that enjoying the coastal lifestyle could be key for longevity. I don't know if it's the sunshine, the salty air, the year-round warmth that allows for an active lifestyle, but 6 out of 10 cities with the highest life expectancy were located in California or Florida. Even if you're not from those cities, studies from Stanford and MIT suggest relocating even after age 65 may do some people good. Not sure if that applies to snowbirds who reside here half the year, but good news for full-time retirees! And here in two SWFL cities people live longer than in other parts of the US.
Before we get to the good news, the research found that the areas with the shortest life expectancy are in the deep South and Southwest. The top 5 are Jackson, MS, Mobile, AL, Birmingham-Hoover, AL, Montgomery, AL and Beaumont-Port Arthur, TX.
