Woman pushing a lawn mower cutting grass. Not good for Southwest Florida allergy sufferers

It might come as a surprise but these places are more than the best Southwest Florida cities for allergy sufferers. However, there is ONE allergen that scores remarkably low in the Cape, as well as Fort Myers, Naples and Marco Island. It is grass. You might think that strange considering all of the golf courses and gated communities full of homes with pristine lawns.

Grass allergies are one of a few allergies that rank low in Southwest Florida cities

However, it's true according to the folks at Lawn Love. They say anyone suffering from grass allergies should fare quite well in Southwest Florida because there are so many sandy and beachy areas here. To come up with these rankings, officials compared 131 metro areas based on allergy risk, exacerbators, and access to detection and treatment resources. They also considered grass pollen forecasts,  and lawn mowing frequency, among other things.

It was followed by Wichita (KS), New Haven-Milford (CT), Hartford-East Harford-Middletown (CT), and Modesto, CA. Modesto ranked in the top five due in large part to the summer wind speeds which can churn up allergens.
