5-Star Cornerback Commits to Miami

5 Star Commits to Miami

The Mario Cristobal era has started shaky. An early season loss to Texas A&M followed by home losses to Middle Tennessee St, UNC, and Duke have taken the wind out of the sails in Coral Gables. But the lack of on field success hasn't translated to off field losses as a 5-star Cornerback commits to Miami. Cormani McClain from Lakeland announced his decision on October 27th, spurning Florida and Alabama. I can't think of a school outside of Florida State that Canes fans would rather beat out. Florida is an in state rival, and Bama has dominated the recruiting landscape for the last decade. This is a huge win for the University of Miami and Mario Cristobal.

McClain is a 5-star corner on 247 Sports, Rivals, and ESPN. He is now the 3rd 5-star to give the Canes a verbal commitment. He joins DE Jaylen Wayne and OT Francis Mauigoa, both from IMG. Going back to the start of The U, Miami dominated recruiting in South Florida. Cristobal is trying to replicate that model to get Miami back to the glory days. Of the 14 4 and 5-stars signed so far, 12 of them are from the state of Florida. The product on the field hasn't been great so far in 2022, but that hasn't stopped the program from building for the future. With their 3rd 5-star commitment of the year, Miami sits at #8 in the recruiting rankings according to Rivals. 5-star cornerback commits to Miami.
