There was such a flood of candy for Halloween, I thought I'd be boycotting sugar for the rest of the week. That is until I stopped to say hi at ladies manning the Miss Mae's Bakehouse tent at the Lake's Park Farmers Market. Farmers market desserts are dangerous, in a good way. I've seen this tent dozens of times. However there is almost always a crowd. I would look at the table with lust and keep walking. However, this week was different. These to die for desserts are a Fort Myers Farmers Market Fabulous Find and a new obsession.
Miss Mae's was established by a mother/daughter team. The daughter wanted to share the family's sweet treats. Mom thought it would be fun project and just hoped to make enough money to pay for the tent. Boy did they. The cakes were a hit and she brought grandma in to help. Grandmas is from Kentucky and loves to bake. The sweet goods the gals make are from family recipes and everything is from scratch. You can taste the love.
Farmers market desserts
The coconut cake is a signature and one that people clamor for. The browies come two to a container. They are massive and I'm told, very chocolatey. I told the ladies I was trying to boycott sugar for a few days and eat more healthfully. The response was, "Well the carrot cake has real carrots in there."
You got me. I'll have a piece. I did not regret it. In fact, I almost wish I had purchased two. Buy cakes by the slice when you find them at local markets. Or, you can order an entire cake or pie in advance. The holidays are coming up, wink, wink. Check out these photos. These to die for desserts are a Fort Myers Farmers Market Fabulous Find.
