Back in the day, long before I moved to Cape Coral, the film "Roadhouse" was my jam. As a kid, I was all about Patrick Swayze kicking butt and taking names in that movie. I probably watched it more times than I should admit. Who wouldn't want to be as cool as Swayze in a roadhouse brawl? Maybe that's why a 73-year-old Florida man tried to fight employees at Cody's Original Roadhouse in the Villages.
According to Fox35, Stephen Serwo entered the restaurant, having a great time. He was even showing off his dance moves with some of the restaurant customers. However, the cool guy's mood took a nosedive when he decided to head for the kitchen. As we all know, it's a no-go zone for customers. The victim, a brave female employee, attempted to explain the very simple house rule to Serwo... Only to be punched right in the face! With a smack to her nose!
Roadhouse Rampage:
Obviously, Mr. Sermo must have confused the fist fighting movie, Roadhouse, with the much more tame Cody's Original kind. Now we can all agree that Patrick Swayze was a pretty bouncer, but he shouldn't have been confused with the poor female employee! Now, as the fists flew, thankfully, other restaurant staff stepped in to rescue the girl... Who doesn't look anything like Patrick Swayze. Just saying. Boy, things sure get wild in the villages.
Well, Mr. Sermo must have been hungry for more drama because deputies later tracked him down at another nearby restaurant. When the police asked the man about his roadhouse rumble, Sermo rambled on about a missing golf cart and a wacky conspiracy involving the restaurant staff. Hmm... Sounds a little fishy (or drunk) to me. The police probably thought so too. So, the police decided to take him to jail, and he was released the next day on a $500 bond. Let's be honest. Mr. Sermo needs a different Patrick Swayze movie. Leave Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse alone.
My Favorite Waffle House Fight Video Dropped One Year Ago Today
What's with Waffle House lately? I keep looking, but we're not seeing any really good fight scenes. Now to be clear, I'm not looking for people to get hurt, but I miss the craziness. Last month in Virginia a woman got shot, but there's no video of the fight. Also, like I said, we're not looking for people to get hurt. Just Waffle House fight video craziness. Especially Florida Waffle House craziness - my favorite.
So what's My Favorite Waffle House Fight Video?
Before we get to that, maybe here's some insight on why we've seeing less fight videos. The Waffle House employees are fed up. Not just with the fights, but with their situation. They want $25/hr, pay, security in all stores, an end to mandatory meal deductions. The third demand is the one that caught me. So they have to pay for a meal whether or not they eat at the restaurant? I've worked at many restaurants and pizza places and I don't recall ever paying for a meal. Sure, there were some hard nosed bosses that said you needed to pay for food, but we always found a way around that. At Waffle House it's automatically taken from your check.
So maybe there's some compassion for the employees right now. They really do go through a lot. So I'll put my favorite Waffle House fight video below. And no one got hurt in the video. If you're at work, watch the sound. There's a LOT of words in these videos that could get you in trouble with HR.
First, since it's the holiday season, let's check some of the runner-ups.
Waffle House is undefeated
This is from an Orlando, Florida Waffle House. This woman was acting up, so an employee carried her out of the store. She happened to be upside down. I don't know what happened, but I'm on the employees side.
The chair throw
This one happened in Georgia last Christmas. Or was it Texas? I don't remember. We've all seen the chair throw and catch, but have you seen the mayhem that led up to it? This one was nuts, but not my favorite.
Restaurant destruction
Here's a more recent one, posted last summer. This fight seemed to be more about destroying the Waffle House than throwing hands. Maybe WH employees do deserve $25 an hour.
My favorite - Jacksonville Florida
Nothing sums up a Waffle House fight quite like this guy. As the fight rages on, he puts his focus on the food. It's not about him - and he don't care. I love that.
