Sleepwalking is terrifying. And it's a real problem here in Florida. The idea that you're walking around the house doing stuff without knowing it just sends chills. And not the fun sleepwalking like on Step Brothers.
Amy Graham, a seasoned sleepwalker who has battled with this nighttime phenomenon since her early twenties noted "It certainly has a notable impact on my relationships because I find it necessary to forewarn my loved ones about the possibility of sleepwalking and potential disruptions to their sleep. Consequently, they often endure restless nights when I'm in the midst of a sleepwalking episode. There have been instances where I've startled my partners awake, leading to less-than-pleasant experiences for all involved."
So how does this affect Florida sleepers?
There's been a surge in online searches in Florida for sleepwalking. The experts at MattressNextDay took a deep dive into Google search data to discover out which cities in Florida are searching for terms related to 'Sleepwalking.'
Pembroke Pines tops the list with a significantly high rate of 904.2 searches per 10,000 residents. 9%? What's going on in Pembroke Pines? Here's the top 15, including one entry from Southwest Florida.

So what's causing the rise in sleepwalking? The likely culprit is screen time. Try to put your phone down an hour before bedtime and maybe don't watch so much tv in bed. There is another idea if you just can't stop crushing candy before bedtime. Wear blue light glasses. I keep a pair in the kitchen and if I need to handle an email or something else before bed, I put the glasses on so I don't mess with my sleep patterns.
Also, limit your caffeine before bedtime. So if you've tried everything and sleepwalking is still a problem, what can you do?
Clear obstacles: Before going to sleep, remove any objects from your bedroom floor that you could step on or trip over during a sleepwalking episode.
Secure your location: If possible, lock the door to your bedroom and any other doors that you could easily open, preventing you from wandering into unsafe areas.
Protect valuables: Ensure that valuable items are stored in a safe place where they won't get damaged and keep anything breakable or spillable out of your way. For instance, having a glass of water near your bed could be knocked over during an episode.
Be open: Inform your partner, roommate, or anyone sharing a living space with you about the possibility of sleepwalking, so they are prepared to assist you if it occurs.
Be clothed: Always make sure you sleep with clothes on, especially if you are staying in a hotel. !!!!!
