High-Profile Fort Myers Murder The Center Of National TV Show Airing Tonight

If you're a true crime enthusiast, a high-profile Fort Myers murder will be at the center of a show heading to national tv tonight. Accused: Guilty or Innocent? will air on A&E at 9 p.m.

The show will focus on the high-profile Fort Myers murder case of Keith Jones, a former U.S. Marine and recent graduate of the Law Enforcement Academy. In 1997, the owner of the former Tides Motel in downtown Fort Myers found him with a gunshot to his head.

Despite an investigation, the case remained unsolved for nearly 20 years. However, in 2019, a witness came forward, leading to the arrest of Cape Coral mother, Michelle Ashley, on charges of first-degree premeditated murder.

Ashley's trial lasted four days, ultimately finding her not guilty. Her exoneration led to Jones' death being one of the oldest unsolved cases in the city.

If you want to learn more about this high-profile Fort Myers murder, tune in to Accused: Guilty or Innocent? tonight on A&E at 9 p.m. News-Press reports that the show will dive into Ashley's life now after her exoneration, her attorney's preparation of her defense, and other aspects of the case. There have been other episodes of Accused: Guilty or Innocent? filmed in Florida. This is the first in Lee County.

I'm such a true crime junkie, but I'm unfamiliar with this case, so I can't wait to watch it tonight!

People In These SWFL Cities Live Longer Than In Other Parts Of The US

People In These SWFL Cities Live Longer Than In Other Parts Of The US

The average human lifespan varies depending on many factors, including income level, race and even — where you live. Living near the coast can mean more than just a good view - it could even add years to your life!

A new MoneyGeek report reveals the best places to live in the US if you're in it for the long haul. The goal of the study was to see if a geographical location can affect the average age of death. To conduct the research, MoneyGeek looked at the average life expectancy in over 100 major metropolitan areas with populations of 250,000 or more using data from University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute’s county health rankings.

It appears that enjoying the coastal lifestyle could be key for longevity. I don't know if it's the sunshine, the salty air, the year-round warmth that allows for an active lifestyle, but 6 out of 10 cities with the highest life expectancy were located in California or Florida. Even if you're not from those cities, studies from Stanford and MIT suggest relocating even after age 65 may do some people good. Not sure if that applies to snowbirds who reside here half the year, but good news for full-time retirees! And here in two SWFL cities people live longer than in other parts of the US.

Before we get to the good news, the research found that the areas with the shortest life expectancy are in the deep South and Southwest. The top 5 are Jackson, MS, Mobile, AL, Birmingham-Hoover, AL, Montgomery, AL and Beaumont-Port Arthur, TX.
