Lamont Marcell Jacobs: Meet the New World’s Fastest Man

Lamont Marcell Jacobs

Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy took the gold medal in the men's 100-meter dash today (August 1) making him the new "World's Fastest Man."

Per USA Today, Jacobs won the 100-meter dash in 9.80 seconds, which was also a personal best for the Italian sprinter and the first gold for Italy in this event. Filling out the rest of the medal standings was Team USA's Fred Kerley winning the silver medal with 9.84 seconds and Team Canada's Andre De Grasse winning the bronze medal with 9.89 seconds.

This marked the first time in three Olympic Games a new sprinter took gold in the men's 100-meter dash. Jamaica's Usain Bolt, who retired from sprinting in 2017, had previously won the race in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
