U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Loses Opening Olympic Match, Twitter Reacts

United States midfielder Julie Ertz reacts after a goal is scored by Sweden midfielder Lina Hurtig

Team USA's Women's Soccer team dropped a devastating 3-0 loss to Sweden in the opening match of the Tokyo Olympics.

The New York Times notes, "The defeat was the Americans’ first in 24 games under Coach Vlatko Andonovski, and their first against any opponent since a loss to France in January 2019."

The loss was also a deja vu moment for Team USA, who were eliminated from medal contention by Sweden at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Many were stunned by the loss and Team USA's sloppy play during the match and took to Twitter to vent their frustrations and shock.
