Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new Florida law Tuesday morning requiring all high school freshman and juniors to take one hour of instruction on how to administer CPR, according to WTSP.
HB157 will go into effect on July 1 and requires school districts to provide basic training in first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instruction.
The CPR training must be based on a one-hour nationally recognized program that uses the most current evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care guidelines.
A father in Jacksonville led the push for the bill, according to NewsJax4. He says his daughter would not be here today without CPR after she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest running on the treadmill at a gym in central Florida.
