An Arkansas mother felt like Spirit Airlines discriminated against her four-year-old son with Autism after he was kicked off a flight for not wearing a mask.
Callie Kimball had a medical note from his physician stating that her non-verbal son is exempt from wearing masks, according to CBS News.
"Whenever he wears a mask he holds his breath or he starts freaking out and he will harm himself," Kimball told CBS News.
The family had no issue flying on Sprit to visit family in Las Vegas, but Spirit wouldn't let them stay on the return flight.
"I've never in my life -- being the parent of an autistic kid is really hard and I've never in my life experienced that kind of discrimination from someone."
The only exemption to the airline's current mask policy, implemented in May, is for children younger than 2 years old, a spokesperson for the airline said.
"Kids on the (autism) spectrum, they're usually very obsessed with something," Kimball told CBS News. "He is obsessed with airplanes. So he was sitting in his seat, quietly and looking out the window, and this lady was like, 'Get off!'"
American Airlines agreed to accommodate the family and accept the medical note, but Kimball said she wants a refund from Spirit.
