The new Mortal Kombat trailer dropped today and I must say, I am READY for this movie. It's been over twenty years since we've gotten a live-action Mortal Kombat movie. So with just a few months left until release, let's break down the five most important points from the trailer.
It isn't taking itself too seriously
Mortal Kombat always has a fine line to walk. It has to be real enough to warrant making a live-action adaptation while being very careful not to take itself too seriously. At the end of the day, it's a story about a fighting tournament held once a generation that decides the fate of the world. It's dumb, and that's okay.
The trailer we saw this week proves to me that the director understands what's important here. Cool superpowered people fight each other because of reasons... Add in some cool effects and snarky one-liners and we've got ourselves a movie.
