Naples Cancels Christmas Parade and New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show

The Christmas parade and New Year's Eve fireworks show was canceled on Wednesday afternoon due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Naples City Council voted unanimously at a public meeting to cancel both events and expressed concerns for the health of potential spectators.

The number of coronavirus cases increased in October in Collier County, according to state Department of Health data. There were 1,836 COVID-19 cases in Collier in October, 60% more than the 1,145 cases in September.

The city would need to see a low coronavirus positivity rate for Naples to hold such large-scale events in the future, Naples Fire Chief and Emergency Manager Pete DiMaria said.

The Christmas parade was scheduled to take place on Dec. 8 and the fireworks show had been set for Dec. 31.
