Wife Seeks Answers After COVID-19 Claims The Life of Beloved SWFL DJ

Nicole Buchanan is fighting for answers after her husband, local DJ Conrad Buchanan, died at 39 years old due to complications of the coronavirus.

Conrad woke up on March 14 with a low-grade fever and body aches. He received a prescription from his primary care doctor for a COVID-19 test but wasn't able to get tested until March 19, as he kept getting turned away.

On March 21, he was given a positive test result for the coronavirus and went to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, according to The News-Press.

Soon after, Conrad had a pulmonary embolism which affected his lungs and the whole right side of his heart, Nicole reportedly told journalist Katie Couric. Nurses said his oxygen levels had gone down and they were pushing to keep his heart going and he had suffered brain damage.

On March 26 at 5:45 p.m. Conrad died.

"He always sang 3 Little Birds to our daughter, so when the nurse put us on the phone with him, we were able to sing that to him as he left us,” Nicole told Katie Couric.

Nicole is now reportedly fighting to get an autopsy done on Conrad's body.

“I want answers. A medical examiner hasn’t even looked at my husband’s body. They are trying to rule it as a natural cause. But they need to look at his body to get answers. These doctors don't know what they’re doing. They’re not ready, and they’re not prepared," Nicole said according to Katie Couric's two-part story on Instagram.

Nicole said she couldn't get a COVID-19 test even though she was in the house with her husband when he was ill for 16 days. When she finally got her own test, she tested positive but showed completely different symptoms than Conrad.

"... my only symptoms are that I have no taste or smell. Why did he die but I’m okay?” She reportedly told Katie Couric.

Nicole said she has called the CDC to file a complaint and was told they are only performing autopsies on 5% of COVID-19 victims.

As of Tuesday, April 1 at 11:30 a.m. there are 6,694 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Florida and 82 deaths, according to the Florida Department of Health Surveillance Dashboard.
