Tax Filing Deadline Officially Pushed Back to July 15
Federal Income Tax Return filings have officially been pushed back from April 15 to July 15 due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced the news today (March 20) via Twitter saying, "At @realDonaldTrump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties."
Secretary Mnuchin continued in a second tweet, "I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money."
Up until this announcement, the Treasury Department already approved of delaying tax payments for individuals and businesses, but they still needed to file by April 15.
