Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Is Getting A Documentary And I Am Here For It!
One of our favorite reoccurring topics of discussion here at the CheckpointXP office is how great the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games were. Whether the soundtrack or the courses and maps - everyone has fond memories of THPS - and now there's going to be a full length documentary about the game we grew up with.
If you didn't grow up during the skateboard and extreme sports boom of the late 90's and early-2000's - the love of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater might seem strange. It's just a skateboarding game, you do tricks - so what? The big deal about THPS was that it exposed an entire generation of kids to skate culture, which was largely and "underground" phenomenon, and allowed for things like the X-Games and for Tony Hawk to become a household name. It proved that there were other ways of becoming popular than doing what was trendy - you could make your own thing and have it baloon to the point that ESPN had to cover it (notice any parallels to esports?) A huge component of that popularity was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
This week Tony Hawk hit social media to announce he'd be attending the Mammoth Film Festival and screening a new film Pretending I'm A Superman (taken from the lyrics of the iconic Goldfinger song 'Superman' which appears in the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game) along with fellow pro skater Rodney Mullen on February 29th.
Along with the post came the trailer for the films which has me unreasonably excited to see this movie!
