Every time I buy something new, I try to discard something old. However, it doesn't always work that way. And sometimes the old still has life in it but I just don't know what to do with it. That's when I turn to the internet for ideas. Earth Day is Monday, April 22nd. Much attention is placed on how to be better stewards of the earth and how to be more kind to the planet.

Old fabric is always great material for upcycling. You can affix it to almost anything to create a new look and reduce waste.

Ways to upcycle for Earth Day

Reducing waste is one of those things. So, if you could take something in your home that you would normally toss, and make something cool with it, why not? This is called upcycling.

There are people who have a great eye and lots of talent for doing this. I am not one. However, I like to check these people out on social media in hopes of being inspired by their ingenuity. Most of the time I just dream of replicating. Every now and then I give it a try and want to give the lamp shade idea below a try.

A Different Way To Recycle Glass

This one is a brilliant idea. I have so many wine bottles I could to this to. It would also make a good gift for someone who loves a particular brand. Make them glasses and give them a new bottle to match.

Repurpose Your Old Linens

This kind of reminds me of that famous "Gone With The Wind" Carol Burnett sketch where she turns gaudy drapes into a ball gown. Only this table cloth is not gaudy. The finished product looks great on her too. Hello summer.

Lamp Shade Side Tables

She goes thrifting for these lamp shades. However, if you look around your house and are wanting to get some new ones, this a great way to upcycle. Just be careful how much wieght you put on the table when it is complete.

About That Pile Of Old CDs

This is super cool. I have boxes of old CDs. I bet you do too. Just double check the data you have stored on them before you do this project.

GIves Waxing A New Meaning

For this project, she uses new candles. However, that isn't exactly upcycling is it? I have so many little candle nubs sitting around. I think this would be a fun way to reuse them. And instead of detergent, I would use essential oils for the scent.
