My Top 5 Best Movie Sequels of All Time

Here are my top 5 best movie sequels of all time in my opinion.  Last week I gave you my worst five sequels but wanted to start the week on a positive note.  There are many others that could have qualified for this list very easily, but these five are my favorite.  Let the debate begin.

Number 1--The Godfather Part II

The early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.  This movie is simply brilliant.  I don't even think Mario Puzo himself realized when he was writing and then making the original Godfather that the sequel might even be deemed better.

Number 2-Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King

This is actually part three from the original Lord of the Rings series.  Having read all of these books as a youth, Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R.'s masterpiece is absolutely brilliant.  Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.

One of the very last scenes after Aragon is wed finally to Arwen Undomiel, they both begin to walk through a huge crowd who all begin to bow their heads to their new King and Queen.  As they approach the 4 Hobbits, they begin to kneel, Aragon says "My friends..You bow to no one.."  Aragon and Arwen then both kneel in front of the 4 Hobbits.  That scene gets me every time, still does.

Number 3-Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

This is arguably the greatest Star Wars movie of  all nine.  Most consider this the best based on acting and action.  "No, I am your father.." is one of the most known movie lines in Hollywood history.  The rest of the plot in case you forgot.

After the Rebels are brutally overpowered by the Empire on the ice planet Hoth, Luke Skywalker begins Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Number 4-Aliens

Siqgourney Weaver is absolutely brilliant in this second installment and I think the best movie by far in the "Alien" franchise.  Fifty-seven years after surviving an apocalyptic attack aboard her space vessel by merciless space creatures, Officer Ripley awakens from hyper-sleep and tries to warn anyone who will listen about the predators.

My favorite line comes near the end as "Ripley" comes out of a storage chamber in an exosuit cargo loader.  She screams at the Mother Alien who is pursuing the young girl Newt at the time "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU BITCH!!"  Priceless.

Number 5-Indian Jones and the Last Crusade

This is actually the third film in the Indiana Jones series and is a much better movie than the second one.

In 1938, after his father Professor Henry Jones, Sr. goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Professor Henry"Indiana" Jones, Jr. finds himself up against Adolf Hitler's Nazis again to stop them from obtaining the Holy Grail.  Harrison Ford and Sean Connery are excellent.  Tremendous chemistry and a great movie.
