There is a day on the calendar to recognize almost any cause, food or sport you can think of. Wednesday is one of them. It is the Great American Meat Out. Are you a carnivore? Can you go without meat for the day? I've noticed more and more restaurants in the Naples, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral areas adding more and more plant based options to their menus, both vegan and vegetarian. To get you ready for a day without animal proteins on your plate, here are 5 tasty recipes for the Great American Meat Out and for TikTok Tuesday.
What is the purpose
The Great American Meat Out is a grassroots educational campaign focusing on diet, farming and animal issues. It began in 1985 and is now said to be one of the biggest diet education programs worldwide. The ideas is to encourage you to put less meat on your plate for a variety of reported health benefits. Also addressed in the movement is a bigger issue of the care and health of farm animals.
Regardless of your beliefs when it comes to these things almost every health expert says it's important to pay attention to the quality of any food you put in your body. It is encouraged that you know how and where your produce was grown too. No meat is not a guarantee of a healthful meal either. It's a big picture kind of thing.
Foregoing meat on Wednesday doesn't mean we have to married to salad. A bean burrito sure sounds good. There are lots of great dishes that don't feature meat and I've found a few. If you don't have a TikTok account, don't worry. I've made it easy to view by taking these links from mine. Simply scroll down and hit play from this post. Asian cuisine has lots of meat free dishes. Think veggie potstickers and stir fries. Delicious. This is a great way to get your veggies in and be creative at the same time.
