Legend Lionel Messi is officially a member of Inter Miami. And we saw Tuesday morning as Messi practices with Inter Miami for the first time. Messi faces an uphill climb in his inaugural season in America. Inter Miami currently sits in dead last in the Eastern Conference, and 14 points out of the playoffs. And with only 12 games to go in the season, he will need to hit the ground running. Inter Miami is in desperate need of goals as well. Their 22 goals are tied for 2nd fewest in the Eastern Conference and tied for 3rd fewest in the league. The GOAT will clearly improve on those numbers as Messi practices with Inter Miami for the first time Tuesday. If Inter Miami stays with their system they've been playing all season, Messi would line up on the right wing with Josef Martinez and Nicolas Stefanelli on the other wing.
But it's not just Lionel Messi who is a new arrival in South Florida. Former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquetes has also signed with Inter Miami. Busquetes is a holding midfielder who will shield the back line of the defense while being a "pivot" for the attack. Both Messi and Busquettes are in the twilights of their career's. But the talent and knowledge of the games should keep them playing at an elite level by MLS standards. Messi will make his Inter Miami debut on Friday, July 21st against Mexican side Cruz Azul. Tickets to attend start at $260 and go up to $56,901 on vividseats.com.
