Aaron Rodgers is back with a vengeance! The Jets quarterback systematically picked apart the Patriots defense on Thursday Night Football on his way to an easy 24-3 victory. The numbers were good. He completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards along with 2 touchdown passes and no interceptions. Heck, Rodgers even rushed for 18 yards! At age 40 and coming off an achilles injury that may be his most impressive stat of the night.
Needless to say, Rodgers has had more eye-popping stat lines in his career, but it was the eye-ball test that people noticed most last night. His passes were a work of art. All spirals into tight windows with a mere flick of his wrist. Which brings me to another point I have made time and time again over my radio career: Aaron Rodgers has the greatest arm talent I've ever seen. And he rekindled that opinion over and over last night. Rekindled, because we haven't really seen him on the field in two years.
AARON RODGERS IS BACK
And during his last days with the Packers he seemed burned out and uninterested. Now he is healthy and motivated... and really, really good!
But back to his arm talent. Readers may ask what about Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, John Elway, Peyton Manning...? Sure all of those guys are in the conversation about the greatest QB of all-time. But during Brady's reign I acknowledged his all-time greatness but even Brady did not possess the arm talent Rodgers still exhibits. Numerous times I watched Rodgers and asked myself how he put a ball in a certain location, or how he even saw the opening in that location.
Sure Rodgers may have left a couple more Super Bowls on the table in Green Bay and that will fairly be a part of his legacy. But Jets fans, enjoy the show because Aaron Rodgers is back with a vengeance.
