Grumpy Coaches Who Bullied Their Way To The Top
Have you noticed grumpy coaches who bullied their way to the top? Not always. But often throughout the history of sports it seems the grumpy coaches bully players, officials, and media. And in many cases, they win a lot of games.
Why are we talking about grumpy coaches who bullied their way to the top? Because on this day in 2019, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich got himself ejected :63 seconds into a game.
By the way, the Spurs lost that game to the Denver Nuggets 113-85. In the history of sports, there have been few coaches grumpier than Gregg Popovich. To outsiders he seems like a miserable old man. We think, deep down inside, Popovich enjoys himself while being a pain in the rear to media members and screaming at his players.
Popovich is far from unique in the coaching world. Maybe owning a short temper is a tool to get others to do what you want at all times. If everyone around you is constantly walking on egg shells, maybe they will perform better. Maybe? Maybe not.
History is full of hot-headed coaches and managers and we will remember some of them with trivia on Craig Shemon and Company on ESPN Southwest Florida.
