If you enjoy a Cuban sandwich and are on a quest to find the restaurant with the very best in Florida, you've come to the right place.
When it comes to Cuban sandwiches, some may be better than others. But I also feel like it's a sandwich that can never be bad. Combining ham, pork, cheese, mustard and pickles and melting it all on pressed Cuban bread is a recipe for deliciousness. Right here in Fort Myers, I've found that Latin Table, formerly Maikel's Kitchen, has a great sandwich at a great price. I also enjoy the Cuban from Mambo Sandwich Co. food truck. I discovered them at a concert in downtown Fort Myers, and I've sought them out for it a few times after. Huge portion size, and the flavor is great. But if you're looking for the best in Florida, you'll have to drive a little further. But I promise it'll be worth it.
This Restaurant Has The Best Cuban Sandwich In Florida
Southern Living magazine recently released their 8th annual South’s Best awards. Readers voted online for their favorite places in the South. The restaurant voted as having the best Cuban sandwich has had plenty of time to perfect it. Over 120 years.
Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City is not only the oldest restaurant in Florida, but the oldest Spanish restaurant in the country. The restaurant opened in 1905. The magazine says what sets their sandwich apart from others is "glazed ham with subtle sweetness, pork shoulder instead of pork loin, and perfect bread made locally at La Segunda Central Bakery." I can confirm this sandwich is a notch above the rest. When I used to live in Sarasota, Columbia Restaurant was a regular spot for me. The best lunch was a Cuban sandwich and a 1905 salad on the side.
While the article focuses on the Tampa location, there are other locations. Sarasota, as mentioned above, St. Augustine, Sand Key and Celebration.
Living in Florida, we know we have a ton of choices when it comes to good food. Especially here in Southwest Florida. Think of all of the delicious restaurants on Sanibel and Captiva islands, in Downtown Ft. Myers, on 5th Avenue in Naples or in many of the malls in the area like Gulf Coast Town Center and Bell Tower. Although many of the island restaurants are still recovering from Hurricane Ian, many have reopened. But, have you tried any of these places Guy Fieri went to on his popular Food Network show, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives? If not, you should.
I'm not a big cook, however I'm obsessed with the Food Network and one of my favorite shows is Guy Fieri's “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives." Not only has it given me some great ideas on places to try, but it's also fun to see what each place offers. And my list keeps getting longer especially since 67 Florida restaurants have been featured. Guy obviously loves being down here in Florida.
If you want to see a list of ALL the restaurants featured on the show, TVFoodmaps.com has a full list. But, out of the 67 in Florida, not all of them are still open. Let's take a local angle for those of us in the Fort Myers/Naples area. So, here are 20 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' restaurants closest to us in SWFL (in order by mileage).
If Guy Fieri loves these places, we've got to give them a shot. Here are 20 Florida Diners Drive-Ins and Dives With Guy Fieri.
