When it comes to our habits, good and bad, some are more costly than others and Floridians cost the state over $3 million on one bad habit in particular.

When you think of healthy habits you may think of exercising regularly, going to bed at a reasonable time, limiting alcohol, watching what you eat, etc. Most of them don't cost a thing, except for maybe a gym membership which can range anywhere from $10/month to over $200 depending on where you go. And then there's bad habits. Some that can cost quite a bit of money. Could be subscriptions to certain websites, drinking and...smoking. And one of those habits is costing Florida a LOT of money.

Floridians Spend Over $3 Million On This Bad Habit

Not only is smoking not good for your health, but it's also not good for your wallet. According to WalletHub, there are 28.3 million smokers in the U.S. They conducted a study that looked at the true per-person cost of smoking in each state and just how much it costs annually and over a lifetime of smoking when it comes to not only the cost of cigarettes, but also health care and income losses. The numbers are shocking.

Smokers cost the U.S. more than $600 billion each year. So where does Florida as a state rank? Florida comes in #32 out of 50. Annually the total cost per smoker is $70,232 which means over a lifetime, that cost is $3,371,124!! For those that smoke a pack of cigarettes each day at $8/pack, assuming they start at age 18 and smoke until age 80 (if they make it that far), it would cost over $181,000, that's half a house!

Maybe in 2024, you can make it your mission to kick this habit. It'll save you a LOT of money over the years, plus add some years to your life. Win-win!
