I just got word that one of my favorite sandwich shops is coming to Florida and my stomach is grumbling with excitement.
Every now and again, you find a restaurant that you can return to again and again and have memories that will last you a lifetime. Over the last 4 years I've lived in Fort Myers, there's a few already that fit that for me. Around the country there's lots too, between places I've gone with my family on vacations, have had first dates at or have met friends for bonding moments.
There's one in particular, that I think back to college and my friend Josh. Potbelly is a great sandwich shop and the location on N State St in Chicago was a regular dining spot for us when we attended Columbia College. We're not in touch that frequently anymore, but every time we talk, Potbelly somehow comes up in conversation.
Now, the popular sandwich chain is expanding to Florida. If you haven't had it, it's hard to me to put my finger on exactly what makes it that much better than the others. It could be the stove that gives the place a homey feel, could be the music decor, could be that the sandwiches are just THAT good. I recommend The Wreck with ham, roast beef, salami and swiss. Also love the Italian. But really, you can't go wrong with any of them.
Where in Florida will they be?
According to QSR, over the last year, the company has worked out deals to bring 46 Potbelly locations to The Sunshine State. You'll soon see the restaurants in Tampa, Orlando, Broward County, Gainesville, Panama City and right here in Southwest Florida. In fact, there are 8 locations slated to open in Lee, Collier and Charlotte Counties.
While opening dates are uncertain, they can't come soon enough. To check out their menu, click here
25 Restaurants Are Now Open On Sanibel And Captiva Islands
It's hard to believe Hurricane Ian hit almost a year and a half ago and while we still have a long way to go, more than 25 restaurants are now open on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
I've been spending a lot time on our local beaches. I love that here in Southwest Florida, even when there's nothing to do, there's something to do. And that something for me, is always heading to the beach. I usually head to Sanibel to either Bowman's Beach or Tarpon Bay Beach. I love Gulfside City Park too, but rarely do I make it out early enough to get a parking spot. It's been SO nice seeing all the people out enjoying the beaches, it's been busy nearly every weekend.
There's also a lot of businesses reopening too. Between lodging, restaurants, shopping, and things to do like kayaking and fishing charters. I will say that driving around out there just breaks your heart. It's not so much that there's debris everywhere, it just looks very bare and to see huge homes and condo complexes just crumbling, is so sad. Slowly but surely though, things are reopening and the island is welcoming visitors back out to the islands to stay, play and dine. You can find a full list of open businesses here
