New Restaurant Opens at Tween Waters Resort Captiva Island

Crow's Nest at Tween Waters on Captiva Island

A new restaurant opens at Tween Waters Resort Captiva Island. The Shipyard is in the spot that the famous Crow's Nest used to occupy. It's adjacent to Old Captiva House, the resort's finer dining spot. The restaurant has been closed since Hurricane Ian hit on September 28, 2022. Resort officials say this is the first of two new restaurants on property. Word on the street is that the space above the former Crow's Nest is also slated for dining. Longtime fans have their fingers crossed. However, there is no official word just yet. Tween Waters is open for business both for dining and lodging. It is another positive sign in the hurricane recovery efforts.

For years, The Crow's Nest at Tween Waters Resort was known for its hermit crab races.

About the new restaurant

The Shipyard has a more casual atmosphere. Restaurant décor is nautical and bright, with white washed wood. In addition, you still have a great view of the sunset from here.  The menu is full of delicious looking lite bites that you might expect from an island restaurant. Think seafood ceviche and smoked fish dip. The steamed shrimp come in Chef Greg Nelson's signature sauce that has lemon butter, garlic and more. You might want extra bread for soaking it up. Nelson is an excellent chef and has been on the island for decades. He and John Feagans are co-executive chefs for Tween Waters.

The full menu is peppered with fish sandwiches, juicy burgers, heaping salads, pasta and lots of seafood. You'll find a seafood boil that you can share and get messy with. There is a whole fried red snapper and almost everything in between. However, it's not just about seafood. Land lubbers also have lots of  options including baby back ribs, ribeye and pork flat iron steak.

Finally, the bar. It has always been a fun island stop and the new menu seems to keep that reputation going. The Shipyard has its own branded whiskey and signature cocktails. Captiva Blonde is on tap. It is the official beer of Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts, the lodging management company that oversees Tween Waters and numerous other island properties.

A new restaurant opens at Tween Waters Resort Captiva Island from breakfast, lunch and dinner. Go and check it out.

Businesses That Have Reopened On Sanibel And Captiva Since Hurricane Ian

When Hurricane Ian hit SWFL Florida in September, Sanibel and Captiva were devastated, but businesses are starting to reopen on the islands.

I love supporting local businesses and I think now more than ever they need our help. It's so sad to see what the storm did to our islands. While it'll take a long time for things to look like they did pre-Ian, I love to see businesses starting to get back on their feet. We live in paradise, so whatever we can do to support our local economy is important.

I've been spending my weekends either at Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel and it makes me so happy to see so many people out enjoying the beach. Almost like nothing ever happened. Also great to see some new things have opened or relocated and even some make-shift bars and ice cream stands (on Fort Myers Beach) set up.

If you want to go out to the islands, whether it's for a staycation, a beach day, or to grab a bite to eat, you have options! SanCap Chamber put together a list of the businesses that have reopened on Sanibel and Captiva. You can check out the full list here, but below we'll have restaurants, lodging, shopping and fun things to do.
