Cape Coral Residents Beware: Wells Running Dry, New Builds to Blame

In Cape Coral, Florida, residents are facing a new water crisis, and it's not because they're drinking too many piña coladas by the pool. No, according to NBC2, it seems that the wells in several homes in Northwest Cape Coral have run dry. It's leaving homeowners with no choice but to dig deeper and pay thousands of dollars for the privilege.

Debbie Casey, a resident of the neighborhood, was shocked to find that her well had dried up one morning. "We woke up and there was no water," she said. Yikes.

But Casey isn't alone in her water woes. Several of her neighbors wells are tapped out too. It seems that all the new builds in the area have caused the water table to drop faster than a lead balloon.

Casey is all for people building their dream homes, but not when it comes at the cost of her water supply.. How many more wells must run dry before we start to realize that we're digging our own watery graves?

The City of Cape Coral has a solution, though. They're going to get everyone connected to city water through their Utilities Extension Projects. It's a long-term solution, sure, but it's better than digging deeper and deeper into debt trying to find water.

It seems like the residents of Northwest Cape Coral are stuck between a rock and a dry well. With the ongoing water crisis, homeowners are being forced to dig deeper and deeper, both literally and financially. It's clear that the new builds are taking a toll on the area's water supply, leaving residents in a watery bind.

While the city's Utilities Extension Projects might offer some relief in the future, residents will still need to find a way to keep their faucets flowing in the meantime. One thing's for sure: Somebody is getting paid. Whether they're sipping on City water or a freshly dug well.  Someone will find a way to make you pay to quench your thirst.
