16-Seed Fairleigh Dickinson Shocks 1-Seed Purdue A True Craig Shemon Special.  A school out of Teaneck, New Jersey. I can't even imagine what I am going to have to sit through on Monday when the Shemon and Sheppard Show returns 2-6pm.

The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights become the 2nd 16-seed to defeat a 1-seed in the Men’s NCAA Tournament

The Knights beat the East Region's top seeded Boilermakers 63-58.  The win is the 2nd of it’s kind nearly 5 years to the day that UMCB defeated top seed Virginia.

With the win 16 seeds improve to 2-150 vs 1 seeds since the tournament added seeding in 1979.

Fairleigh Dickinson got their first NCAA Tournament win in the Round of 64 after losing their previous 5 outings in the round.

It was a major upset as the line was set for Purdue at 23.5 according to Caesars Sportsbook.

Tobin Anderson is the first head coach to guide a 15 or 16-seed to a Round of 64 win in the 1st year of their tenure at the school since 15-seed Santa Clara’s Dick Davey in 1993 over 2-seed Arizona.

Purdue Fails To Meet Up To Expectations Again

Another year of unmet expectations for Matt Painter & Purdue with this being his 5th loss vs a double-digit seed in the NCAA tournament, which is tied for the 3rd-most by a HC since seeding began in 1979.

Excluding First Four games, Purdue is the first team to lose consecutive NCAA Tournament games against 15- seeds or worse.

Going a year further back & excluding preliminary/First Four games, Purdue is the first team since seeding began in 1979 to be eliminated by 13-seeds or worse in 3 straight NCAA Tournaments.

Purdue now has 6 losses against double-digit seeds in the round of 64, which is the most among Big Ten teams and tied for the 3rd-most in the round.

Where The Heck Was Edey Down The Stretch?

One big reason Purdue went down was their inability to get Zach Edey the ball down the stretch. Edey attempted just 1 FG in the final 13 and a half minutes of the game.

The rest of the Boilermakers shot 4-16 from the field and turned it over 5 times.

Craig Shemon will be unbearable to listen to come Monday afternoon when the Shemon and Sheppard Show returns.
