Bear Attacked Zookeeper At Jacksonville Zoo

It's not very often you hear of things like this happening, but a bear attacked a zookeeper at a Jacksonville zoo.

The incident happened yesterday around 5 p.m. at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens when a bear escaped from its exhibit. The bear is a 5 year-old North American black bear named Jonny.

WFLA reports that a zoo curator arrived at the habitat and saw the bear “actively attacking” the zookeeper. He said the attack continued and he had to make the “executive decision to move in and shoot the bear."  The bear went back into its enclosure where it later died. Other workers were able to assist the victim while they waited for rescue crew.

The zookeeper that was attacked by the bear was taking to a Florida hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
