‘American Gladiators’ is Getting an ESPN ’30 For 30′ Special

American Gladiators

American Gladiators is going to be the subject of a new 30 for 30 special from ESPN.

Per Deadline, the upcoming special about the iconic sports competition show will be a joint production from ESPN Films and Vice Studios. The special will feature appearances by a number of former Gladiator personalities as well as show co-creator Johnny Ferraro. Deadline notes Ferraro "has been referred to as 'The Godfather of reality television."

American Gladiators ran in syndication from September 1989 to May 1996. The show was rebooted in 2008 on NBC but only lasted for one season.

An exact release date on the American Gladiators' special is currently unknown, but fingers crossed some time during the special will be dedicated to this classic moment when Gladiator Malibu got launched off his pedestal during Human Cannonball. Can't believe the show changed the rules on this segment and wouldn't allow competitors to swing feet first into the Gladiators anymore.
