Disney+ has announced that the Hamilton film will get released over a year earlier than had originally been planned. The  Broadway musical was supposed to go to theaters in October of 2021, but now it will be on Disney+ in July.

As Decider explains, " Given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disney is treating fans to [Lin Manuel] Miranda’s musical more than a year early. According to Disney, the special event was filmed at Broadway’s Richard Rogers Theater in June 2016, the same month that the musical captured a staggering 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical."

In a statement, Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of the musical, said, "I'm so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought Hamilton to the screen. He's given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house." He also adds, "I'm so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I'm so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I'm so glad that we're able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can't wait for you to see it."

Hamilton will be available to stream on Disney+ on Friday, July 3.
