ESPN has finally fixed their Monday Night Football broadcasts. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have brought the big time feel of the broadcast. But a line from Troy Aikman on last night's broadcast is bringing some heat on the analyst. It was a throwback football guy line from Troy Aikman: "Take the dresses off". I'm sure Aikman has heard the line many times from his time in youth football through his final playing days in Dallas. I'm sure the line is still used to this day in NFL locker rooms and sidelines. But the morality police on social media were not having any of the insensitive line. And to be honest, Troy should know better. If you missed it, here it is.
Concussion Protocols
Again, Aikman should probably have avoided this particular analogy. However, the message that Aikman is sending to the league should be one that is received. The Atlanta Falcons should have had a chance to win their game against the Buccaneers this Sunday, but for another terrible Roughing the Passer call. The NFL is overreacting to some pretty horrific scenes two Thursday's ago with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa being stretchered off the field. The overreaction is in the Roughing the Passer calls, and not the change in concussion protocols. Teddy Bridgewater was not allowed to return to the game Sunday against the Jets even though he cleared all protocols. There is also no video evidence that Bridgewater was displaying any "wobble" that would rule him out for the rest of the game.
Back to Aikman
Back to Aikman and the response on the wonderful internet. The morale police came out hard, but there were Aikman's fair share of defenders as well. Aikman will not be suspended by ESPN. Monday Night Football on ESPN with Aikman and Buck is not a meme every Tuesday morning. Unlike the past few years when analysts would routinely make a mockery of the product.
