The Las Vegas Raiders have officially parted ways with their head coach Jon Gruden.
In a recent New York times report, the NFL were investigating emails that Gruden had sent in 2011. These emails were said to have contained homophobic and misogynistic language over a period of seven years. The emails apparently used vulgar language towards NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as well as some owners, coaches and members of the media. One email he sent to Washington Football Team president Bruce Allen, had said NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith had “lips the size of Michelin tires”.
During this period, Gruden was an analyst for ESPN’s Monday Night Football. In 2018, he returned to coaching when the Raiders offered him a 10 year $100 million deal. Gruden, issued a statement last night saying he “resigned” as the head coach of the Raiders.
