Dolphins Down the Bills

Dolphins Down the Bills

The Miami Dolphins down the Bills 21-19 to improve their record to 3-0. The only game that featured two undefeated teams going toe-to-toe this weekend had great defense, explosive plays, and a butt-punt. It literally had everything. The Miami Dolphins are now the only undefeated team in the AFC, and one of only 2 3-0 teams in the league (this post is before the Giants play the Cowboys, so the Giants could go to 3-0 with a win). The Buffalo Bills dominated time of possession. Buffalo held the ball for 40:40 with the Fins only on offense for 19:20. The tilted numbers don't end there. Buffalo had 90 offensive plays compared to Miami's 39. Buffalo outgained the Dolphins 497 yards to 212 yards. Josh Allen had 63 passing attempts compared to 20 for the Dolphins (Tua 19 and Teddy Bridgewater had 1). Looking at the stats, the Buffalo Bills should have won this game comfortably. But the Fins D held strong.

Turnovers

The Dolphins once again had a clean game with turnovers. 2 of the 3 games for Miami have featured 0 turnovers for the fish. And the defense had the one play that flipped the game. With 5:19 to go in the 1st quarter Javon Holland strip sacked Josh Allen to set Miami up on the 6 yard line. 3 plays later the Fins leveled the game at 7. Each team got another touchdown before going to the half tied at 14. Buffalo got a field goal in the 3rd quarter for the only score in that period.

4th Quarter

To start the 4th quarter Tua and Waddle connected on a 45-yard strike to set up a Fins TD 3 plays later. Miami took the lead and would never relinquish it. Another huge stop for the Fins D on 4th-and-Goal from the 2 set up the play that everyone is talking about; the Butt Punt. Thomas Morstead's punt into the rear end of Trent Sherfield, his blocker. In this moment Mark Sanchez is no longer synonymous with butt stuff in the NFL. Buffalo driving for the game winning score was stopped dead in it's tracks when Isaiah McKenzie was tackled in bounds and the clock ran out before a potential game winning kick. Here are the sites and sounds from the game.
