Bills Create Cap Space for Odell Beckham Jr. Signing

Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to sign with the Bills, Cowboys, or Giants sometime next week. He will be in New York meeting with the Giants on Thursday and Friday of this week. Then meet with the Cowboys on Monday, and the Bills after that. Buffalo made a move today to create additional cap space for Odell Beckham. Per Field Yates, the Bills converted $2,971,667 of CB Tre'Davious White's base salary into a signing bonus. The restructuring has given the Bills $2,228,750 in additional cap space. This positions the Bills to be able to make a competitive financial offer that can be more in line with what the Giants and Cowboys could offer.

I don't think this move means OBJ is a slam dunk to sign with the Bills. It depends on what Odell's priorities are. I think it's money. Last season he won his Super Bowl, but because he took his salary in Bitcoin, it ended up costing him a lot. This is just speculation, but it would make sense for Odell to prioritize money and targets over winning it all. Odell is trying to position himself to get one more payday next off season. Winning is important for Odell, just look at the teams he is considering. They are a combined 23-10, and all three teams would be in the playoffs if they started today.

Today the Bills create cap space for an Odell Beckham Jr. signing. Here are the pros and cons for Odell signing with the Bills, Cowboys, or Giants.

The Cowboys can offer Odell the most money. According to Spotrac.com the Cowboys have $6.3 million in cap space. In theory they could offer most of that to Odell. The Cowboys can also line Odell up opposite CeeDee Lamb in an offense that has scored at least 28 points in 4 straight games. He could put up the numbers to position himself nicely if he becomes a free agent in 2023. The Cowboys also give OBJ the second best chance at winning another Super Bowl.

With the move today, the Bills can now offer roughly the same amount of money that the Giants can offer. The Bills give Odell the best chance to win another Super Bowl. Would Odell supplant Gabe Davis has the #2 pass catching option in Buffalo? I don't think that's a for sure thing. He could still put up good numbers in that offense, but would probably not see the volume he could see in Dallas.

Odell returning to the G-Men would be an awesome story. Even though I would rank New York 3rd out of these 3 teams to deliver a Super Bowl, I don't know if that's the priority of OBJ. This is still a well-coached team that will be playing meaningful games down the stretch. New York can offer Odell the #1 pass catching option that the other two can not. Financially their offer will be right in line with what Buffalo can offer.

I think Dallas makes the most sense for Odell. He's got a chance at playing deep into the playoffs, can make the most money, and position himself the best for the upcoming offseason if he wants to test free agency. There we're a lot of people saying the winner of the Giants-Cowboys on Thanksgiving would win the OBJ sweepstakes. I agree. Odell signs with the Cowboys.
