Every year there are many celebrities from athletes to actors and more that visit Southwest Florida for the "Weekend With Papi" Celebrity Golf Classic and it's coming to Marco Island.
Next weekend, November 22-24, it's the "Weekend With Papi" Celebrity Golf Classic at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort. And it's all for a good cause. The 3 day outing will benefit the David Ortiz Children’s Fund that provides lifesaving heart surgeries and care for children in the Dominican Republic, where Ortiz is from, and throughout New England. So far, the David Ortiz Children’s Fund has paid for surgeries that have saved the lives of over 1,600 children and helped an additional 16,500+ kids.
"Weekend With Papi" Celebrity Golf Classic Coming To Marco Island
The number of celebrities that will be at the Celebrity Golf Classic is extensive. This year, "Weekend With Papi" will see Papi’s former Red Sox teammates Pedro Martinez, Johnny Damon and Gabe Kapler; Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia, Brock Holt, Jackie Bradley, Jr., and Kevin Youkilis; MLB Hall-of-Famers Barry Larkin, Derek Jeter and Jim Rice; World Series Champs Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez, Carl Everett, Dontrelle Willis, Orlando “El Duque” Hernández, Jorge Posada, Shane Spencer and Jim Leyritz; MLB greats Andruw Jones, Félix “King Félix” Hernández, Jose Reyes, Michael Tucker and Mychael Givens; Stanley Cup Champion Shawn Thornton; NBA Champions Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Rashard Lewis; Super Bowl champ Lonie Paxton; WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, boxing world champion Winky Wright, actors Anthony Mackie and Anthony Anderson and more.
In a press release, David Ortiz said: “Our ‘Sweet 16’ will be the biggest and best event yet. After all these years, it still humbles me how everyone comes together with the common goal of helping these kids. This legacy is as important to me as my time on the baseball diamond and I’m so proud to continue to build on it.”
