We hear about a lot of crazy things that happen here in the Sunshine State, but this blew my mind to hear that a Florida bondsman is accused of bailing women out for sexual favors.
Growing up in Illinois, I never knew too much about bail bondsmen. The law there actually prohibits the use of bondsmen in the state, meaning you have to post your own bail. The most I knew about them was from watching Dog, The Bounty Hunter and learning how that process worked. I actually told my dad years ago that when we moved to Florida, we should start a father-daughter bounty hunter business. We didn't, and I'm ok with that not working out. But one Florida bondsman is accused of bailing women out of jail for sexual favors.
Florida Bondsman Accused Of Bailing Women Out For Sexual Favors
Russell Moncrief, a Central Florida bondsman, has been charged with human trafficking and racketeering. 75 year-old Moncrief is the owner of Moncrief Bail Bonds and is accused of bailing out female inmates in the Orange County Jail on prostitution and/or drug charges in exchange for sexual favors. According to Newser, he would also sell the women to pimps who would then prostitute them. A press release also says that he would use threats of revoking, pulling or violating the females’ bonds as a form of force, fraud or coercion.
And worse, he wasn't alone. His case actually stemmed from an investigation into a previous case that involved former defense attorney John Gillespie committing similar crimes. Some victims of his were victims of Moncrief as well.
Moncrief is being held with no bond. Which isn't that interesting that the bondsman is now being held with no bond. He is being charged with human trafficking for commercial sexual activity, racketeering and unlawful use of a two-way communications device to facilitate the commission of a felony. He is facing up to 125 years in jail.
