Usually when we hear about scammers, they're scamming seniors, but in this case an elderly Naples couple was caught selling stolen goods on eBay.
I always hate hearing about scammers. Those that take advantage of the vulnerable are the worst kind of people and unfortunately, a lot of times, they target the elderly. Not very often though do you hear about the elderly actually doing the scamming. In this case though, their victims are big box and grocery stores. And they're facing up to 20 years in prison.
Naples Couple Caught Selling Stolen Goods On eBay
81 year-old Richard and 77 year-old Gail Murtaugh from Naples have been arrested for stealing from stores and reselling those goods on eBay. According to Fox4, investigators saw the pair over the course of 2 years, 2021 and 2022, on camera, stealing all kinds of things from personal hygiene products, grooming supplies, nicotine products, teeth whitening and more.
Once the goods were secure in their home, they would take photos of the items and list them in the eBay store "dickandgail". They must be pretty techy for older people because they made quite a profit. $175,621.31 in fact!
Eventually their crime spree came to an end when police searched their home and not only found some of the stolen merchandise, but also photos of the goods on the iPad. The pair of senior swindlers did plead guilty and agreed to forfeit the money made from the sales. Their sentencing date has yet to be set.
