Florida Man has been a popular topic for some time. Last year, the Florida Man Games competition emerged, celebrating real-life examples of the decade-old Florida Man meme, which originated from the now-defunct Florida Man X account that highlighted bizarre news stories from the state.

Pete Melfi, the event’s organizer and owner of Florida digital news outlet The 904 Now, told the Orlando Sentinel that the event started as a “0.5K Beer Run” but evolved into a full tournament as more games were added.

The next Florida Man Games will be held on March 1 next year. Teams of five will compete in events such as beer belly sumo wrestling, a pool noodle mud fight, a “category 5 cash grab” (where contestants grab money inside a wind machine), and an obstacle course where competitors must evade arrest by real police officers. After submitting videos explaining why they should be chosen, 16 teams will be selected to participate in the main events. Other attendees can also join in with games like a mechanical gator and an obstacle course.
